Adventures in Nursing

Cory and I were lucky enough to sneak out for the evening.  Dinner and a comedy/improv show, so fun!  -Thanks for the invite, Kimi!  -Oh, and THANK YOU mom & dad for taking the kiddos.

Leaving Easton that long takes some planning.  And I'm always nervous about messing up my milk supply, so I brought my handy breast pump along on our date. Romantic, huh?  So, in between dinner and the show I pumped in the car.  (side note: the first time I ever used a breast pump was the only time where I felt completely embarrassed when I was all ALONE)

So, we drive off from dinner, and I'm feeling great about my pumping plan.  "What a good mom," I think while we make our way to the show.

We had never been to this venue before, so we had our trusty GPS-lady-friend directing us.  Apparently GPS-lady-friend also had never been there, because she told us to pull in to the wrong parking lot.

Realizing our mistake we pull a U-ey in the very small lot and head to the exit.  JUST THEN, I notice a young man looking like he's locked out of his car, walking TOWARDS OUR CAR!  But I'm still pumping-it-up inside.  Ah! What do we do???

"Excuse me!" the guy outside calls out.

I turn to my husband who looks equally as stumped and shocked as I was feeling.  I shout, "Drive! Drive! Drive!"

Gasp, that poor man!  I could still hear him calling after us as we peeled out of the lot.  He probably thought we were awful people!  If he only knew I was attached to a milk-sucking-machine in there!  But he'll never know...

SORRY, MAN!
I hope someone fully-clothed came to your rescue!

1 MONTH!!!

I'm not sure when this happened:
E had his one month check-up today!  He weighed 7lbs 2oz.  He put on a pound in just two weeks!  I was so proud of my little man!  Then they told me that he's still in the 3rd percentile, oh well.

Who doesn't love baby yawns???

P.S. Here's Sadie's 1 month pic to compare.  She beat Easton big time weighing in at 8lbs 11oz.  That's okay, we're still proud of breaking through 7lbs!

A little bit different this time around

I'm part of an online pregnancy group/forum.  We've pretty much all had our babies, and the moms chat now about parenting challenges.  One girl just had her first baby and asked, "What do you ladies do to keep busy?"

What???  What do I do to keep busy?  Oh, I don't know, how about take a SHOWER?   That's a productive day 'round here!

We're slowly emerging from the survival mode that is life with a newborn.  We're getting longer chunks of sleep at night.  (Puh-LEASE say I didn't just jinx it!)  I'm getting dressed in regular clothes most days.  My glasses have switched to backed to contacts.  So, we're making progress!

Breastfeeding update:  We're doing it!  I do feel like I'm nursing more hours in a day than I'm not.  WHILE typing this post, I've done both breastfeeding and pumping, (which makes typing go very slowly. but hey, I'm just sitting, might as well blog!)  But all in all, it's going dramatically better this time than with Sadie. I think this time I have manageable expectations. Also, Easton hasn't shown the same signs Sadie did with regard to reflux. And I've successfully blocked out any of those pressuring influences surrounding the issue.  I've finally accepted that if I switch to bottles it's no big deal.  And strangely, knowing that fact has made breastfeeding easier.

So I really can't complain.  Having two kids is harder than one, but knowing all the things that I learned with Sadie has definitely helped with Easton.  We might be tired, the house might be a mess, but we're making it!  And we couldn't be happier!

Proof that Sadie is still part of the family
